Human Resources Generalist
Job Summary
The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for the day-to-day administrative functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including, but not limited to, recruitment, onboarding/offboarding, payroll & benefit administration, leave administration, performance management, employee recordkeeping, HRIS maintenance, employee relations, regulatory compliance and enforcing company policies and practices.
** This position is full-time, onsite 40 hours per week generally between the hours of 8am - 6pm (must be open to one evening a week)
Role and Responsibilities
- Serves as a point of contact for general employee inquiries and concerns regarding company policies, benefits, timekeeping, etc
- Collaborates with managers to identify staffing needs.
- Oversees the recruitment process, including job postings, candidate screening, interviewing, and onboarding.
- Completes offboarding, including exit interviews and retrieving company property
- Assist with investigations, in coordination with the HR Business Partner
- Interprets and explains human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards and regulations to managers and staff as needed
- Participates in developing organizational guidelines and procedures.
- Consults with managers on employee issues and provides guidance within the scope of organizational policies, procedures
- Works with the HR Team, Managers, and Executives to develop strategies in motivating employees and creating a positive culture.
- Stays up to date on the legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance
- Keeps the HR Manager informed of all possible legal risks and deviations from policy
- Maintains and updates as necessary all job descriptions to ensure compliance with ADA, EEOC, FLSA, FMLA, and CARF
- Administers leave request (FMLA, STD, LTD, Leave of Absence etc.)
- Ensures accuracy and completeness of benefit enrollment in HRIS to ensure all current and new employees have timely coverage.
- Assist with Benefit Administration (eligibility determination, enrollment, changes, terminations, audits) to ensure employee coverage is timely, maintained adequately and general questions/issues are addressed
- Monitors the completion of required training in the organization
- Responds to request for information from the State of Michigan for unemployment claims
- Coordinates, tracks, and follows-up on performance evaluations
- Assists with facilitating internships/externships and volunteers
- Oversees tracking of all licensing renewal for licensed staff, annual DMV checks for positions that require the essential function of driving
- Maintains thorough documentation and general recordkeeping of employee personnel files
- Administers Worker’s Comp claims and ensures they are filed timely with the carrier
- Assists with developing, updating and managing workflow procedures
- Works with the Compliance Department to meet CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) requirements
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Business Management or related field, required
- Two (2) years of experience working in the field of Human Resources, preferred
- SHRM or HRCI certification, preferred

- Proficient with or the ability to learn the organization’s HRIS. Experience with ExponentHR a plus!
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds.
- Must be able to perform repetitive tasks such as typing for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to clearly express and exchange ideas by means of spoken words to impart oral information to employees or others accurately or quickly, engaging in sometimes lengthy conversations or presentations.
- Must be able to ascend and descend stairs daily.
- Must be able to seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with your hand or hands.
- Must be able to perceive sound by ear to interpret oral information from employees or others accurately or quickly.
- Work will be performed in an office environment with fluctuating temperatures.
